Skills Development

1. LITERACY
Since 1994 the company has offered literacy and computer training to more than 100 employees on a weekly basis. The evening classes are presented by 3 qualified teachers under the supervision of Mrs. Estee van Zyl. We follow the Western Cape Education Department syllabus and issue certificates on completion. Mooigezicht currently sponsors several pupils from surrounding farms to take part in this literacy training. Computer training is available to employees and their children.

2. BURSARIES AND SEMINARS
Over a number of years bursaries and grants have been made available for higher education to our farm children. This has played a crucial role in giving them the opportunities to reach new goals in life. They are not obliged to redeem any capital or to be employed on the farm after completion if their studies.

Management and staff at all levels regularly attend a wide range of Skills Development Training Courses and Seminars. These include modular courses at institutions such as Elsenburg Agricultural College and topics covered include health, safety, labour legislation, child care, youth, financial and many others.

3. LIBRARY
A well-equipped library has been established on the estate with the assistance of the Provincial Library Services. Reference and recreational material is available in three languages to our people and those of surrounding farms. A provincial librarian provides the necessary supervision.

4. SEWING CLASSES
During the  off-season, we provide weekly sewing classes to women on the farms. At present, the items that we produce are donated to less privileged mothers in the maternity departments of Provincial hospitals.

5. MOSAIC AND POTTERY
Skills like mosaic training and pottery have also been offered to our people.
